BYD once again astonished both friends and foes, this time by clinching multiple awards at the Portuguese Car of the Year awards. The BYD SEAL notably secured no less than three victories.

The annual presentation of the ‘Troféu Volante de Cristal’ is the most prestigious national car contest in Portugal. It’s organised by one of the major media companies in Portugal – Grupo Impresa – specifically through its media outlets SIC Notícias and Expresso. The car contest features eight categories and a main prize for the overall winner, the Car of the Year.

Best of 22 competitors
The 2024 edition marked the 41st event in the history of the Portuguese car awards, and it was a particularly special one for BYD. The BYD SEAL was judged as the best car throughout the contest, thereby winning the prestigious 2024 Car of the Year title. In doing so, the SEAL surpassed 22 tough competitors.
But the accolades didn't stop there. At the Portuguese car awards, prizes are also given in eight subcategories, where the BYD SEAL emerged victorious in two categories. BYD’s innovative D-segment sedan was proclaimed the ‘Electric Car of the Year’ and won the ‘Design of the Year’ category as well for its elegant Ocean Aesthetics design language.
Already highly appreciated
The fact that the BYD SEAL went home with three awards is further proof that the elegant sport sedan is well-received by the European audience. The BYD SEAL had previously been positively received by the European press, after which it was also nominated for the final of the European Car of the Year award, which is widely considered the most valuable automotive award in Europe. Out of 28 cars that were carefully selected and extensively assessed by an expert jury of 59 automotive journalists from 22 countries, the BYD SEAL ultimately finished sixth in the final.
